This is a very easy and adaptable recipe for an appetizer for New Year’s dinner. For us Christmas Eve dinner is traditional: turkey, potatoes duchesses, applesauce, etc.. But the New Year is to test recipes and surprise guests. We usually do all the silly traditions grapes, lentils, walk around the house with luggage (we never went around the block, my grandparents live in a huge field block), special underwear in the proper color, ring in the cup, money in your pocket. What do you do?

Brie and jam purses
for packets 16-32
Ingredients:
- A dough box pre-made sheet
- brie or other cheese you like
- I use orange marmalade, but raspberry is one of my favorites
- 1 egg
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 400F or 200C.
- If the dough is frozen thawed according to package directions.
- Roll the dough on a well-floured counter until you have a square about 40x40cm. I use a ruler.
- Cut the dough in half and then each quarter into 4, you will get 16 squares of dough.
- Place 1 teaspoon jam in the center of each square and a bit of brie cheese on top.
- In a medium bowl beat the egg until well blended, one minute.
- Using a pastry brush to paint all edges of each square and then close as seen in the picture, joining the four corners to the center and pinching with your fingers.
- Cover the cookie sheet with foil and place the purses on the sheet.
- Repeat with the other dough.
- Brush with the remaining egg and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool 5 minutes in the cookie sheet then serve warm
- They can be made in advance and keep refrigerated. Bake just before serving.

My family usually makes this with a large wheel of brie and wraps the entire thing with puff pastry before serving, but I like the idea of individual appetizer portions. This would be good with the raspberry chipotle sauce you can find in most supermarkets.

Thanks for commenting, and I like the chipotle idea.
